3 Important Steps for Better Car Maintenance

by Felix Ray

If you own a car, it's important to keep it working and looking great. Otherwise you may have to deal with severe problems in the future. You can keep your car maintained thanks to these steps.

Change the Oil

It's important to change your car's oil. Otherwise your engine may overheat and break down. You can change out the oil yourself if you feel comfortable. First, put a collection tray underneath the oil plug, and remove the plug. Let the old oil come out completely.

Then, put new oil in using a funnel. The funnel prevents the oil from spilling all over the place. Check your dipstick to see where the oil line is. If it's above the "fill" line, you can stop adding more oil. If you just turned your car off, it's important to let it set out for a while before changing the oil. This prevents you from burning your hands. Talk to automotive experts like Enck's Sunoco for more help.

Inspect the Air Filter

An important part on your car is the air filter. This collects debris and other things, preventing them from wearing down your engine. This is why it's important to inspect it often, making sure it's clean. If it's not, and it's a reusable filter, you can clean it.

First, locate the air filter housing, which will be underneath your hood. Take the filter out and hold it up to the light. If it's covered in dirt and dust, put it in a bucket filled with soapy water. Swirl it around, getting all of the dirt and debris off. Set it out to dry completely and then put it back inside the housing unit. If your filter is not reusable, you will have to replace it with a new filter.

Check the PSI Range for Each Tire

It's critical to keep your tires aired up correctly. If you don't, your car may have handling problems on the road. Checking the PSI range of each tire is easy when you use a digital tire pressure gauge.

Put this gauge on the valve stem of each tire, and get the readings. Compare these readings with the ideal pressure range, which you can find in your car's owner manual. You can then let some air out or put more air in with an air compressor, depending on what the PSI range is.

Keeping your car in good condition is critical because it helps you drive safe and it saves you from having to spend a fortune on repairs later on down the road. You can keep your car maintained thanks to the steps above.
